Monday 18th January 2021 Day 300
So here we are Day 300, who would have thought? I was only going to do this for three months from last March and now here we are approaching March for the second time.
Today is also, as I heard on the news when I woke at six this morning, Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year. Why on earth do we give it credence? I’m sure we are all feeling pretty down a lot of the time without ‘revering’ it on a particular nationally recognised day? Do you think on Sunday night, a whole lot of people think ‘Oh no it’s blue Monday tomorrow, I’m going to feel so much more depressed, however will I cope?’
The other thing that caught my eye over the weekend was the news that somewhere there is a place where everyone is getting together in the normal old way, going to the pub, in and out of each other’s houses, even indeed, hugging and it’s all legal
and this place is the island of Guernsey, a place I know well because my nephew lives there. It seems that the Government there must have done all the right things because currently they are Covid free. How good it would feel to be somewhere like that even for a few days. Obviously, they are being very careful with their ‘travel corridor’ which seems to be the latest phrase describing flying in and out of an airport, why do they have to keep finding new slogans? So I had a good look over my kayak which seems to be in very good condition and just wondered if on a calm day I could find the shortest distance from coast to coast and nip over there, landing in a smugglers cove. I know, wrong on so many counts but I can dream.
10.00 There was quite a frost last night and even now the car windows are only just clearing as we set out for our walk behind the pub and into the recreation ground. I am aware that I still haven’t tried to suss out why the pond pump isn’t working and intend to do that when we get back, but it’s too bloomin’ cold still to put hands in icy water, I’ll wait a few more days I think and anyway I only have until eleven this morning and that wouldn’t be nearly enough time.
11.00 Time for another session with my little writers’ group, just four of us this week and it is good to hear some constructive criticism of the pieces we read out. Nothing bad just different points of view and interest but very useful too. It is quite a long session, not ending until lunchtime.
Today I would like to send love to my three friends who have contracted this virus and wish them all a speedy recovery.
