Tuesday 2nd March 2021 Day 344
7.45 Another sunny blue sky day. What an incredible difference it makes to everything and unbelievably I still have the bit between my teeth and am getting on with stuff. My next project is to strip and repaint the back door but the sunshine belies the temperature out there and it is pretty chilly in the shade.
Well it had to happen didn’t it? It seems that someone has decided that the name of our village, Blackboys, is offensive, politically incorrect. There was a response to this effect on Facebook when it was reported that someone had sawn through the village sign and removed the name of our village which we all know was named after the boys and men covered in black deposit from the charcoal burning kilns for the iron ore which was then made into cannons and balls and tested out across the valley in Gun road.
Whether or not the sign was taken as a protest or just because someone fancied growing some flowers around it in their back garden, perhaps in Whitesmith! I have no idea.
Over the weekend I did a lot of work on the pond, clearing old dead stuff from around the perimeter and replacing the unfortunately necessary netting with a new one. The new netting is in one very large piece and definitely should have been a two person job as it needed to be stretched over the pond and each time I managed to stretch it one way, it pinged back at me from another direction, it was a bit like trying to build a bridge across water single handedly. A bit of swearing under the breath seemed to help in the end, luckily there was no one to film my strange solo ballet routine at one point when with flailing arms I managed to defy gravity and not fall in to join the already startled fish.
13.00 I don’t listen to the news much these days, it filters through soon enough anyway but I did listen today and ‘They’ still haven’t managed to catch up with the person who managed somehow to slip the net by not leaving enough information concerning their whereabouts and is now wandering about with the Brazilian variant of Covid 19 which may or may not be covered by the vaccinations we have all been so glad to have had. There are so many questions I am sure we would all like to ask about how that could possibly have occurred that I won’t add mine here.
Gosh I’m in danger of becoming positively political here so I will end today by saying that I went into my garden shed this afternoon and inside was the tiniest wren which I had the privilege to watch for several seconds before it flew out of a small hole in the roof, so miniature, so perfect.
