Hay made while the Sun Shone

Thursday 23rd July 2020 Day 121

7.00  I have been awake on and off as per usual since five twenty but am now woken by a strange noise coming from downstairs, I can’t quite work out what it is.  When I go to the top of the stairs and look down, I see Audrey, who has managed to get out of the kitchen, scratching at the carpet for all she’s worth.  I shout to her to stop and she slopes off back to her bed.  I noticed some scratch marks in the carpet the other day and thought it must have been Worry, now I’m not so sure and I haven’t a clue why she would be doing that.

9.00  A call via house phone, unusual, from one of my daughters.  She has dropped her mobile phone and it has completely shattered.  It’s an old phone anyway and needs updating but it appears that you can’t get a new

phone for love nor money at the moment, there are no new ones to be had.  I can’t work out why this should be.  I haven’t come across anything that isn’t still available in my new ‘hobby’ of ordering stuff from Amazon every five minutes.  I wonder why phones aren’t being manufactured?

I put my details on a King’s College run Covid 19 app every day and today, users have been permitted to look at new graphs and a map with pin pricks all over it to denote new cases in the last two weeks.  What is fascinating, I thought, is that in all of the west side of Britain i.e. Cornwall from the Tamar west, Wales, Northern Ireland and virtually the whole of Scotland, look as if they are practically devoid of new cases, whereas good old England still looks to have uncomfortably quite a few even though the accompanying graphs suggest a very sharp decline for the majority of counties.

12.30  I have spent a couple of hours trying to get my head round a film making process I bought a year or two back but I’m no further forward really, however it has been pleasant to look back over lots of videos made over the years.  I’ll take a break now and come back to it with new eyes

13.30   Creamy Carrot soup for lunch, made with roasted carrots which make it taste so much nicer, or so it said in the recipe and actually yes it does, with a bit of cumin, coriander, onions and garlic.

14.15  Audrey is champing at the bit, or she would be if she had one.  We’re going to the hay fields today where the cut hay is now in huge tube shaped bales.  So iconic of this country in summer.

We are steering clear of the woods for a day or two after meeting a large black dog yesterday evening who didn’t look very friendly and appeared to have no one with him. Then I realised that the dog’s owners were in one of the shelters that kids had made from fallen branches.  The dog was ok actually but as we were in the most remote part of the wood, we made a hasty exit.

Evening walks probably not a good idea. Trouble is if someone tried to attack me, I’m not sure if Audrey would try to protect me, or lick them to death!
