We meet the Postman

Friday 31st July 2020 Day 129

6.45   Woken up by the ‘Cooking Fat’, (for those who don’t know it, a spoonerism!)  I sent her her marching orders but she only moved a foot away with that disdainful look she has purr-fected over the years.  I have just realised that I missed her birthday this year, 26th July and she was ten; not that we could have celebrated with anything special because she will only eat a tiny bit of one particular tinned cat food and particular biscuits, I honestly think she would rather starve than eat anything else at all and believe me I have tried everything.  Apart of course from the odd mouse or bird but touch wood, I haven’t seen any of those lately.

9.00  It is going to be another scorcher today, so a quick flip round the house stuff and we will walk early as one of us insists on wearing a thick black coat in all weathers and can easily get overheated.  I have ordered, from Amazon of course, some dog clippers, goodness knows how that will turn out but we will give it a try.  I doubt she will end up looking like a French poodle.

11.00  We went out later than I meant in the end and it is getting pretty hot, nevertheless I’m not going to be allowed to get away with not throwing the ball in the fields but I am making the walk a little shorter today because she is

panting so much already.

As we come out of the field, I see the postman go by and we wave, Audrey always goes berserk when she hears the postman come to the door and I try to keep her in the kitchen at that time, so I was more than a little concerned when half way back along the narrow pavement, I hear a car coming to a halt and turn to see it is the postman who has turned round and come back to give me two parcels that need signing for, which he was going to take back to the sorting office for me to collect.  Audrey is extremely strong and when he gets out of the van, she goes barmy, barking and pulling and for a moment I don’t think I am going to be able to hang on to her.  Paul the Postie is very calm with her and talks to her quietly and surprisingly she settles enough for me to keep hold, just.  It was very kind of him but now I have to get home with two awkward parcels, the ball and ball thrower and one frisky dog.

Tonight I will be off to the coast again with my friends for another beach barbecue.  I am sure the beaches will be very crowded today but hopefully by this evening most people will have gone home.

3 Thoughts on “We meet the Postman

  1. I have a cat the spitting image of yours. The green eyes and the glossy black coat. We rescued him from the RSPCA 2 years ago and he is a wonderful character, really funny and very affectionate.

Love reading your diary, keep it up.

    Best Wishes
    Angela

    1. How funny we should both have black cats. Yes mine is a great character too and very affectionate even though I suspect some feral in her genes, thanks for your encouragement Angela, Best wishes Penny
