Tuesday 8th September 2020 Day 168
7.00 Am woken by a rather ominous sound coming from above me. Something going on either in or on the roof. It’s a kind of loud shuffling noise, could be large birds on the tiles or goodness knows what in the loft, I sincerely hope it’s the birds. I had a dead mouse in the loft a few years back and you cannot believe the smell something so small gave off. It died because the house I am joined to put poison in their roof which a mouse obviously took and then decided to come over to my side to do the dying. In the end my kind son-in-law came and climbed around all the insulation which is the only thing in my loft until he found the culprit. The noise did stop after a bit so fingers crossed.
10.00 A short slimming group session on Zoom, I’m back in my target which is the most dangerous time for the old will power. However I still cannot be convinced to make a quiche pastry case with pease pudding and egg instead of a pastry, I think I would rather chew on my toes.
11.30 I meet up with Sarah to go and try one of the footpaths I noticed while out yesterday with the grandchildren. Sarah knows the area like the back of her hand and walks often, so when I suggest a new footpath
she says she really hopes it isn’t anywhere down Hollow Lane which of course it is.
As it turns out it is not a walk she has been on so we set off down a field with an electric fence down the middle keeping a large herd of Friesians to one side of us. We walk on and through a gate where to one side of us is a cow with a pretty chunky bull, also fenced off with an electric fence. It’s a funny thing how what looks like a frail bit of ribbon attached to wobbly metal posts, doesn’t really inspire great confidence in one’s safety, especially when a bull is looking with interest at the dog which Sarah sensibly has suggested I put on the lead, although I notice she doesn’t offer to hold said lead. We cross the field as quickly as we can without looking as if we actually would like to be running but the bull has turned away and really isn’t interested.
It’s a nice walk which I doubt many people do but as usual there is a lack of yellow arrows so we have to do a bit of guess work until we feel we are doing a circle and up a lane there is another sign. This time there is a zebra in a field surrounded by electric fencing. The sign points across that field so we have to duck under the wire and fortunately do not electrocute ourselves.
The zebra of course is not actually a zebra, it just has a blanket over it’s back with a zebra pattern, why? Perhaps I should get Audrey a dog jacket with a wolf on it.
Then it’s back across the field next to the bull and cow with Audrey on the lead. She doesn’t show a whole lot of interest in farm animals although yesterday she rushed over to say hello to a couple of horses.
15.00 It is a really beautiful day today and I am going to take the old pine coffee table I have acquired and plane the very stained surface down before waxing it
