Thursday 12th November 2020 Day 233
6.30 Today is going to be an oasis of sunshine followed by a lot of rain and grey from tomorrow, so I intend to get out and enjoy it.
9.30 The first thing on today’s list is a proper kitchen floor wash, pulling out cupboards, wine racks, chairs, bins etc, rather than the quick whizz round with the mop which is all it has been getting for a while. The wine racks look pretty impressive, full of bottles of wine but looks can be deceiving and ninety nine percent of the bottles are the fairly disastrous home made wine that Ray and I made some years ago and which I have already referred to in a previous entry when we tried a glass or two with Yvonne and Richard late one afternoon and discovered the true meaning of ‘legless’ after only one glass.
10.30 We are on our way to meet Wendy on the Ashdown Forest. We are meeting on the far side of the Forest from me, near Chuck Hatch because we feel there will be less walkers. As I drive across the centre of the Forest I am staggered by the number of cars. All of the car parks, even the tiny ones are absolutely packed. If you ever wondered where all the commuters have gone, I reckon it is here. Even the less known car park where we meet is practically full and even though there are over six thousand
acres of Forest, we still pass quite a number of people and dogs. Audrey seems more interested in going to say hello to the owners of the dogs and is quite picky about which dogs she would like to play with for a few minutes.
12.30 On the way home now and as we reach Blackboys, we pass a car which couldn’t help but put a smile on anyone’s face, completely covered in what looks like grass with a happy smiley face on the front, apparently it belongs to grass and turf experts. Wouldn’t it be great if more cars and vans represented their business or their hobbies. How would you dress yours up? I think mine would have to look like a surfing dude or a piano with the keys for teeth. Maybe not such a good idea for funeral directors?
15.15 I have just been down the garden to check the greenhouse and remove some more duck weed from the pond because it now practically covered. I have only just woken to the fact that this stuff I have been trying so hard and unsuccessfully to get rid of, is actually not such a bad thing at this time of the year. I have been surprised that the heron hasn’t appeared for weeks now when this time of the year is usually when he is the most persistent but of course because the weed is covering the pond, the heron (or heroness) can’t see the fish when he or she is flying over. QED.
