A Hoar Frost

Monday 11th January 2021 Day 294

7.30    I suddenly remembered while languishing in bed with a crossword puzzle, that I have a grocery delivery coming between eight and nine, so instead of my usual sloth like getting out of bed and wandering into the bathroom, I’m out of bed like a Jack rabbit and into the shower.

7.50   I seem to have done everything towards getting up, including washing my hair in twenty minutes instead of the usual hour it seems to take me these days, it’s that old incentive thing again.

8.10    I happen to glance out of the lounge window and see what I am sure is the groceries lorry, drive slowly past my gate, then two minutes later it drives slowly past again from the other direction until finally it comes to a stop and drives in when the driver sees me waving like a mad woman from the front door.

9.00        It’s a busy morning compared to normal at the moment as I also have a dentist appointment at eleven and I have realised I didn’t have the usual reminder, so I phone up to make sure they are still doing routine check-ups and they are, except that my appointment is for eleven o clock next Monday; not my favourite pastime, going to the dentist, so although relieved it’s not this morning, I will have to gear myself up to it again next week .

No hoar frost today thank goodness, pretty as it was, it was painfully cold yesterday, my hand brake cable seized up and the

padlock to the field was too iced up to unlock, so we had to walk a bit further up the road to the stile which has been placed opposite a blind bend in the road so you have to take your life in your hands to cross over.  By the time we came home, Audrey had frozen whiskers and the feathers at the end of her tail were frosty too.

Today the temperature has gone up to five degrees outside, which feels quite balmy in comparison to yesterday and I am hoping the pipes to the pond may have thawed enough for me to find out what the electrics problem might be.  Although I just don’t fancy that sort of job today so I will put it on tomorrows ‘to do’ list

Ok my suspicions that I’m losing my mind have just been confirmed when I looked at the heading of this entry and for some reason I have put ‘12th September’, why on earth would I do that?  Wishful thinking maybe that we might all be in a different place by then.
