A Speckled Rose

Wednesday 30th September 2020 Day 190

07.50   It’s a late waking but I don’t mind because it was a rubbish night.

My friend Ann in Spain has told me that they have cases of Corona virus in her little village and she is understandably concerned.  Eating out is very much a way of life out there, restaurants are cheap and good and the sunshine promotes a lot of outdoor living, so curtailing it is going to be difficult, possibly more so than here.  We on the other hand have the winter and rain and cold in front of us which will make any sort of gathering difficult.

I am thinking of getting out the large gazebo I have, attaching it to the back of the house and just cover whichever side the wind is whipping in from, a few garden chairs and the chiminea in the centre and hey presto, six people  party time. Might even set up a bring your own sausage barbecue.

Maybe it wasn’t such a rubbish night just because I was awake because I had some good

thoughts, the gazebo idea being one of them.

I also thought about the wonderful, magnificent David Attenborough who at the age of ninety-four has joined Instagram and received the biggest following in the quickest time of anyone ever.  He has joined simply because he needed to find a way to get to the young to understand and take part in helping our ailing planet.  He is ageless in my book from when I first saw him as a handsome young man on black and white television, in Paraguay talking to the camera while huge beautiful butterflies swarmed all over him, not to mention the famous very touching footage of him sitting with gorillas.  He has such an incredible manner about him, you feel that he is talking with you, not to you. Now he has become in my opinion, top ambassador of our wild world.  Guess what? I’m a fan

11.30   Woods walk today Audrey has taken to squealing with delight as soon as we leave the house and until we get there, I on the other hand would very much like to find some new walking places, I love the woods but I think I could walk around them blindfolded now, I know them so well.  We might go find a new walk in Laughton tomorrow, weather permitting.  Today we literally got back into the car and the heavens opened.

15.30  I have done a bit of garden tidying and clearing another load of duck weed from the pond.  I discovered an unusual and very pretty rose peeping through some foliage, apricot with pink speckles on the outer petals.  Where did that come from? I have no idea.
