Tuesday 14th July 2020 Day 112
7.30 I woke last night at ten past three. Ten past three seems to be a favourite of mine for waking! Why so specific? I have no idea but I’m sure I have heard other people say similar. Anyway, I remembered something I had seen on BBC Sounds; a programme called ‘The Sleeping Forecast’, a mixture of light orchestral music and a proper shipping forecast, in the way that only radio 4 can do a shipping forecast. I knew sleep wasn’t going to come for ages and so I tried the Sleeping Forecast, not really expecting anything, so surprise surprise that it is now 7.30 and I have slept right through. I only remember hearing the music and a little of the forecast, surely coincidence that I dropped off so quickly? I’ll only know by trying it again.
9.45 I am watering the plants in the greenhouse, the Chinese mystery plants now reach the ceiling and are covered in yellow flowers but still no sign of any fruit, I don’t think anything is going to happen. They will just grow and grow and then that will be that but I keep hoping.
This morning my son Mat’s boat is finally ready to go back in the water after over a month of extensive repairs. Much welding has been done and Hiboux V is now seaworthy again.
13.45 Choir practice, one member can’t make herself heard although she can hear us but as we all sing with our mute buttons on due to the fact that timings don’t sync on Zoom, we cope. It will be a long time still before choirs are allowed to meet and sing together which is a shame because singing with other people can be very uplifting.
14.30 A text from Mat to say She, (is it sexist to call boats and cars ‘she’ these days!?) is now back in the water and all looking good, there will be pics to follow. This was one lockdown story that actually worked in someone’s favour. Had he not been living almost permanently on the boat since the start, one leaking boat may have had a different ending altogether.
16.45 A visit to the vet with Audrey for a check up for prescription flea and wormer. She got very upset last time she was there and this time I wasn’t even allowed to go in with her. I don’t think reading between the lines that she was at her best when she got in there and we are both glad that little visit is over although she has put on a few pounds which are going to have to come off. Perhaps she should join me at slimming group
Last night, late, my supermarket food arrived and it wasn’t until after they had gone that I realised I had several bags of someone else’s shopping as well as my own. This consisted mainly of huge bags of crisps, several bottles of Pepsi Max, soya milk and packets of sugar, as well as a jar of peanut butter. I phoned the supermarket who seemed very surprised that I should phone and tell them and anyway I should keep it all as they are not allowed to collect anything. Now I have to ask myself whether I would have been so quickly on the phone if it had been a few bottles of gin and a decent red wine!
