Monday 14th December 2020 Day 265
7.30 I am just getting up for the second time today, the first time was when I woke, thought it looked less than black outside, heard heavy rain and the shush of morning traffic through the puddles and decided it must be about seven but for some odd reason didn’t look at the clock, so when I came out of the shower and did look at the clock I thought at first it had stopped because it said 4.45. Actually it was 4.45 and why there was so much traffic going by at that time I don’t know. The only thing to do was to get back into bed again for a couple of hours and listen to the radio. So now I am up for a second time.
9.00 No grocery delivery today, instead I am going to Click and Collect from the Eastbourne branch and I feel stupidly nervous about it in case I get it all wrong.
Janet has told me which part of the car park to go to. Knowing me I will probably read the signs wrong and drive in the wrong way round or something. This being the person who got so lost on a diversion while driving back from Cornwall once, that I ended up driving on to the Torpoint ferry for Plymouth! True!
9.15 I am walking with Pat this morning and we are going to the Cuckoo trail where hopefully it will be less muddy and easier walking. We set off in convoy for Heathfield in order to get on the Cuckoo trail which used to be the Hailsham to Eridge railway line.
It’s milder today and the rain has held off and the ground is looking reasonable for walking. Pat bumps into someone she knows but hasn’t seen for a while so they chat for a bit and then we set off. There are a few people and dogs on the trail and Audrey is in no mood for play and grumbles at a young dog who has the audacity to come right up to her. A girl comes right up behind us before very quietly asking us to let her through. She is on a bicycle and excuse the moan but I do wish cyclists would use their bells to warn people they are coming before they get right up close. On the way back Pat bumps into another friend out walking, nice that so many people are on foot these days that you are likely to come across people you know.
12.00 I am heading for Eastbourne and the scary Click and Collect, how pathetic I am being and of course when I arrive there, there are so many big signs telling you where to go that even an idiot like me can find my way. A nice girl brings containers with my order and as I am putting my shopping into the car she says she will put the containers on top of each other so I don’t have to bend too much!! I smile sweetly at her and say thank you but inside I am wondering just how old she thinks I am that she feels I would rather not bend!
12.35 I arrive home and discover that I am missing several items on the list. A phone call and a refund but can I survive without sprouts, a lettuce, spring onions and a cauliflower!?
The photo is of Chichester Basin taken from a famous viewpoint where people go to see the beautiful sunsets, this was the sunset we saw on Saturday.
