Monday 3rd August 2020 Day 132
7.00 How can it be August already? Far from time dragging through lock down, it seems to have sped by since March. August is the month for summer holidays but to me it is the beginning of the slippery slope to Christmas! June and July are summer to me.
It looks like we are going to have another week of fabulous weather and long may that last to keep our spirits up.
8.45 I am going to get straight outside and clean the pond filters. The filter system is under the branches of the apple tree and already the wasps are starting to come for the rotten fruit left by the birds pecking at the apples. When I lift the lid, there are the usual
huge slugs that like to live in there for some reason and I get rid of them as quickly as possible. The Pond is looking very clear and healthy at the moment so everything must be working ok.
The weekend was nice, on Friday early evening I met friends at Cooden beach for a beach barbecue. Normans Bay was heaving with people and motor homes so even if we decided to stay there we wouldn’t be able to park. Cooden beach, only half a mile further, was practically empty. Friday was probably one of the hottest days we have had but by the time we got to the beach the sun had gone in and there were some fairly threatening looking clouds above us but it didn’t matter because it was still very warm and what more could you want than a sausage in a roll and a glass of red?!
I have been looking at one of the hedges in my front garden for a few weeks now and finally have decided that it is getting so wildly overgrown that it is not going to wait until October when Matt the hedge cutter comes. So on Saturday I got out the electric hedge cutter, checked for nests in the hedge and got to work up a ladder. Last time I tried this, I managed to cut through the flex and I do find the whole process a bit scary in case I manage to swing it towards myself but all was well, a long and hot job but very satisfying once done.
11.30 Slimming group, soon to be disbanded from zoom in favour of going back to the hall where all sorts of new rules will apply, including bringing our own wipes to wipe the chair we have been sitting on and weighing in our shoes – that’s going to sort the wheat from the chaff! I love my food and pride myself on having very few dislikes but every week they seem to manage to come up with something that positively turns my stomach and this week it is a recipe for ‘mac n’ cheese muffins’ and yes the ‘mac’ does mean macaroni! Really??!
14.00 I have an injury to my shoulder which was about to be operated on when lock down happened. This has hampered any thoughts of kayaking this year which would be a perfect activity to do, on my own on a river. It seems that my operation isn’t even on the horizon now and I have decided I am going to have a go, maybe I can perfect a one arm paddling style! So Yvonne and I are going to have a paddle up the Adur this week and see how it goes. Now I am outside with a bucket of hot soapy water, cleaning a years’ worth of dirt off my kayak and really looking forward to giving it a go.
