It’s raining chocolates…..and fur

Friday 21st August 2020 Day 150

6.30    I don’t think there has been rain in the night, it looks a bit grey out there but the wind has really picked up, unusual for August.  I have been trying to think of a Plan B for catching the cat in the hedge.  He is still hanging out in there, it’s not the first time he has done this, it takes very little to spook him and make him hide but a whole lot to coax him out again!

9.00  It was a week ago yesterday that I started a week of self isolation and I must confess I am getting a bit bored with it now.  I don’t know what other people make of my company but I have certainly had enough of it that’s for sure.  I got quite excited yesterday at the prospect of my visit to the tip and if that isn’t pathetic, I don’t know what is.  It’s not as if we are back to normal anyway and taking a step back for a while has made me long for some proper normality but not at any expense; the Russians are using a vaccine already; I would be very wary of that personally and the long-term effect.

10.15   I’m giving Audrey a good brushing, she seems to be losing her summer coat already and her strange furry coat is everywhere, it bowls along the kitchen floor like tumble weed,  I knew I should have given her a No.1 when I clipped her! When the grooming is finished, I look down at the pile of fur on top of a cardboard box and it seems to look right back at me like a furry hedgehog.

When I get fed up with the repetitive gloomy news items on the BBC, I can always turn to the Irish Post for something refreshing and it rarely fails to come up with something off the wall. Today there is an article about a little town in Switzerland called Olten whose inhabitants were very happy to wake up one morning to a malfunction in a nearby factory. It was a Lindt factory and there had been a defect in one of the ventilators and cooling pieces of chocolate were swept up into the sky where strong winds scattered them all over the town, just imagine!

And a restaurant chain is under attack in Ireland for ‘weighing diners’ to see how much they should give them to eat.  Can you imagine?  Can’t be true.

18.30  Well it has been an extremely blustery and uneventful day but sadly as I look out of the window, the only chocolate I see is in my dreams, so next best thing, out with the gin bottle
