‘Just in Case’ Christmas

Tuesday 1st December 2020 Day 252

Dear Reader of this diary, I have just realised that this will be the two hundred and fifty second day I have begun with what time I wake and get up every morning and frankly there are only so many ways one can describe that time of day, so I am going to spare you from any more as it doesn’t differ so much on a daily basis. Instead, probably to your relief too, I shall start my diary further into the day.  I can’t believe you are still here with me on my voyage through this extraordinary year but I am very grateful for your company and now we have reached December 1st and the climb towards an uncertain Christmas.

Actually I am thinking of it more as a ‘Just in Case’ Christmas because I find myself getting things in ‘Just in Case’ I should suddenly find myself with the need to provide food for the family if our plans should change. I am imagining people buying enormous turkeys, only to discover that half the family won’t be able to turn up due to last minute need to isolate or grid lock on the roads. Perhaps the January freezers will be filled with turkey soup.

9.30   The slimming group meet up and it seems we are all pretty much on the case to lose as much as we can before the festivities begin in order that we can relax a bit and fill our faces with mince pies, cheese and chocolates.  In fact, most of the meet up is taken up with discussing our Christmas plans.

I have to say this is the most disorganised I have ever been for Christmas and that’s saying something.  Thank goodness for Amazon, although I would much prefer to be out there, choosing stuff, at least we do have that alternative.

11.30  Our walk today is in bright sunshine and even the mud has dried just a little, the woods are dappled and bright and we come upon a natural wood sculpture which I am sure could take it’s place in an art gallery. A foolish rabbit runs right across Audrey’s path and she gives chase but as fast as Audrey can run, she is not fast enough to catch it, she’d probably just lick it to death if she did.

After the walk some garden pruning and tidying, there is such a lot to do and this year I am determined to get on top of it before it all starts growing again.  It’s a bit late in the year for putting the garden to bed but better late than never. I am looking forward to a nice big bonfire in a week or two.
