Monday 26th October Day 216
7.00 The clocks have gone back, or at least I have walked around the house putting all those that aren’t automatic back. So really it is eight o clock, I wish they wouldn’t muck around with time. Wasn’t this so the farmers got more daylight hours during WW2 or have I imagined that?
The lack of diary entries at the end of last week were due, I think to a piece of chicken, cooked by me and eaten by me when I could see it was a bit pink in the middle. Let’s just say it made for an interesting few days! Why on earth I did that I do not know because usually I virtually cremate the thing before I will eat it but there we are, another lesson learned and one which, believe me, will not be repeated.
Just before the chicken struck me down on Thursday, I went with friends for a barbecue on the beach. Well more of a sausage and onion in a bun and a glass of Prosecco followed by the compulsory marshmallows on sticks, it proved a good combination. A beach barbecue is such a nice thing to do in these times. We were the only people bar a loan fisherman on the beach and the sun came out for us. We have decided to continue the barbies through the winter if we are not all locked up in our houses.
Another lesson learned on Saturday morning. My mobile phone rang and I answered it. Nothing odd there? The lesson learned was: When your phone rings – a) make sure you are suitably attired and b) make sure you have noticed whether it is an audio or video call! Enough said.
Saturday evening, the return of Strictly come Dancing, a great pleasure for addicts like myself and another small feeling of normality in this frightening second wave of Corona virus. It really was a breath of fresh air and the dancing just gets better and better each year.
13.30 I am still not firing on all cylinders but I am going to meet one of my daughters with her children at a place called Eartham where we will walk in the woods. Particularly pretty woods and we had some sunshine too. Audrey of course delighted to be rushing about in new territory and we met quite a few dogs on the way, she was particularly partial to a King Charles spaniel in a green knitted sweater. The walk proved a good idea and I felt revitalised afterwards but glad to get home after getting stuck in the late afternoon traffic.
