Rainy Days and Sun Days

Friday 29th January 2021 Day 311

7.10    I have just woken up to a rather ominous sounding scuttling above me although there isn’t really anywhere to scuttle in the loft as it is full only of foamy insulating stuff so its either ‘bats in the belfry’ or maybe birds on the roof, I hope it is the latter out of the two.

This week I have got stuck into the first of very many big jobs I have to do in the house and that is going through years of old paperwork in the office upstairs dating back twenty years or more.  I have the bit between my teeth to get stuff done and I hope to keep up the momentum.  The trouble is that I keep coming across old letters and kids drawings and stuff that I have kept that belonged to my parents which I don’t have the heart to throw away.  Inevitably I have to stop and read or remember so it is taking quite a long time but I am beginning to see the wood for the trees.

11.30  We are braving the rain yet again.  It doesn’t seem to matter what time I go for a walk this week it is

gloomy and rainy, not cold though, until I get home, when in five minutes the sky turns blue and the sun comes out.  Today as we come from the field into the recreation ground, in the far corner, hanging across the ditch and with practically no shelter, we see a hammock slung between two trees, quite a nice new looking hammock and I really can’t imagine who might have put it there or why.  I can’t imagine anyone spending the night in it if they are perhaps homeless, in all this rain when there are plenty of much more sheltered trees it could have been hung on.  A complete mystery.

12.30  Just as predicted we have just arrived home and the blue skies and sun appear.

14.15  I am just putting the finishing touches to the mocha cake I have made for one of my daughters for her ‘big’ birthday today which I shall pop round to her later when she has finished work.  The older my offspring get, the older it makes me feel.  This will be yet another celebration put off till hopefully later in the year when things might have eased a bit.  By then I can imagine the whole country celebrating all the postponed events that have built up.  Perhaps we should have  National celebration day and all celebrate together with street parties, each person celebrating their own missed event.

It’s good to think that February is only just around the corner, Spring can’t come quickly enough this year.
