Star Trek surprise and Romanian Hideaway

Monday 6th July Day 104

6.30   Another very restless night sleeping on and off although when I did sleep, I had the most extraordinary and vivid dreams.  At one point an estate agent was showing me round a house at the top of a mountain in Romania with no access by road.  It was more of a tumbledown shack but he persuaded me to sell my house here and buy the shack for the same amount I sold for.  Note on waking: am I really such a push over!

What a grim weekend, rain and wind and grey on Saturday but there was a very bright moment,

Fourth of July;  no longer will I think of it as American Independence Day, from now on I shall think of it as Return of the Hairdressers Day!

I arrived at my hairdresser, Amanda’s, house at the appointed time, feeling a little nervous.  She opened the door and greeted me looking like something out of a bizzare edition of Star Trek and presented me with disposable shoe covers, I already had a mask on. To say it all seemed very surreal is an understatement and I am pleased to say that both of our automatic reactions, was to laugh.

Then it was into the middle of a bare boarded room and a sterile looking chair where she got on with both the business at hand and the lost three months of news on either side, while I fielded the pug dog Ray with my covered foot which he seemed convinced was another pug dog.

Wonderful, I felt like a new woman, not too much off at first I thought, we will shorten it by degrees and anyway I have got used to it being that much longer but nevertheless I was very surprised when I met up with friends afterwards and no one noticed!  I guess we have all become so used to just accepting each other for what we are and not what we try to be, that no one is actually very interested.

17.00 Sunday evening.  It has been suggested that we all go outside and clap for the seventy second anniversary of the NHS.  I thought I was going to be the only one for a minute but Yvonne appeared and we clapped together, no cars, no one else, no one to hear but we did it and meant it.

12.15  Today  and after slimming group where we are told that we can start going back to the hall on the 17th August, although there will be a lot of new rules in place.  This is the news we have all been waiting for, we are all fed up with Zoom meetings?  Or so we thought, as we walk around the field afterwards Sarah and I realise that actually we would prefer the Zoom meetings now, we are used to them, we know they won’t go over forty minutes and it is what we are now comfortable with.  Funny things human beings.
