Tuesday 18th May 2021 Day 370

7.30   Some welcome sunshine after an afternoon and evening of waterfall type rain

8.30  I am on the way down the garden with breakfast for a cat I am currently fostering whose home is in a comfy shed with radio music supplied! It’s like the garden has had a spring clean, like everything has been hosed down and polished. The leaves, the grass, everything is sparkling and looks wonderful.  The cat yawns and stretches and we have our usual morning cuddle before he partakes of a little salmon and biscuits before venturing outside, sadly I cannot have him in the house because Worry would go berserk.  It took her nigh on a year to finally realise Audrey was a friend.

9.15   I meet Sarah at the old scout hut, not that it has been used as a scout hut for years, it is now a day nursery and village meeting place.  We are going for a walk across the allotments and past Tickerage Mill where Lawrence Olivier and Vivien Leigh lived during their marriage.  We lean on the old wall above the mill pond and wonder if they used to lean there too. It’s a lovely place and a great walk.  Fortunately we only meet two people on the way, I say fortunately because Sarah seems to know everyone we meet and walking along the road through the village with her, is always interesting because practically every car that goes by beeps and there is much waving.  It is a long walk this morning and much to talk about as her daughter is about to be married.

On the way back we walk through a rickety gate and realise that Audrey has done one of her disappearing acts.  We call, she doesn’t appear, I try whistling, still no Audrey, then after a bit she appears on the lawn of the big house next to the footpath we are on and seems to be trapped in there and can’t find the way out, there is barbed wire and fencing but no apparent escape route, although she must have found one to get in, then Sarah finds an old rusty gate which mercifully opens.

I have been doing some searching for new places to launch the kayak from this year.  I reluctantly decided to rescind my Lewes rowing club membership as I wasn’t using the club often enough to make it worth while.  Last year Yvonne and I saw a possible launching place when we were on the Adur so Audrey and I went to check the road and where we could park.  It is very tucked away and there is a concrete slipway on the bank, perfect.   Come on decent weather, I want to go boating!
